Hartsfield-Jackson Promotes Public Health and Safety With Step 'n Wash

Airport Is Installing 72 Devices to Make Hand-Washing Easier for Children

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - March 5, 2010) - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is making it easier to travel with children by installing Step 'n Wash in all 72 public restrooms throughout the facility.

Step 'n Wash units are self-retracting steps, secured permanently beneath restroom sink counters. They enable the Airport's smallest customers to wash their hands independently and prevent the often-awkward process of parents lifting children up to the sinks.

In addition to promoting a healthier lifestyle, Step 'n Wash reminds young travelers about the importance of properly sanitizing their hands.

When the project is complete, Hartsfield-Jackson will be the first major airport to install Step 'n Wash in every public restroom.

"Step 'n Wash will add a significant value for our passengers," said Doug Strachan, Airport Innovations manager. "Parents who travel -- especially those with more than one child -- know the challenges that come with lifting a toddler up to the faucet, maintaining an eye on their luggage and keeping their bodies balanced. Step 'n Wash effectively eliminates any restrictions previously placed on parents or supervising adults."

To notify passengers about Step 'n Wash, decals will be applied to the mirrors directly in front of the sinks where the devices are available.

Atlanta mother Joi Sumpton came up with the idea for Step 'n Wash. For more information, please visit www.stepnwash.com.
